Red Cross Blood Drive, Cozad @ Cozad Community Hospital
Jan 14 @ 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
During this season of giving, the American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give the gift of life to help ensure patients don’t have to worry about the availability of blood this winter. Blood and platelet donations of all types are needed, especially type O.
Holiday travel and severe winter weather often lead to a decline in blood donations. However, a patient’s need for lifesaving treatment doesn’t take a vacation or stop for nasty weather. Blood and platelets are needed every day for those receiving treatment for cancer and leukemia, accident and burn victims and surgical patients, among others.

As a special thank-you, those who come to give blood or platelets Jan. 1-19, 2020, will automatically be entered for a chance to experience the Super Bowl live. The Red Cross and NFL have teamed up to offer one winner two tickets to Super Bowl LIV, entry to the official NFL Tailgate, tickets to Super Bowl Experience at the Miami Beach Convention Center, round-trip airfare to Miami, three-night hotel accommodations at The Alexander® – All Suite Oceanfront Resort (Jan. 31 to Feb. 3), and a $500 gift card for expenses.* Additional details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/SuperBowl.
“The Red Cross appreciates the NFL’s support during this crucial time of year when every donation – and every donor – matters. We hope this may inspire some to make regular blood and platelet donation one of their New Year’s resolutions,” said Sullivan.

Theodore Roosevelt: “Rough Rider President” @ Wilson Library
Jan 15 @ 7:00 pm

Darrel W. Draper, a fifth generation Nebraskan, retired Navy officer and University of Nebraska at Omaha graduate, uses
his talents as storyteller and actor to educate and entertain. He has performed for national and state government
agencies, museums, schools, youth groups, festivals and is a popular banquet and luncheon speaker. He specializes in
costumed portrayals of historical figures that played major roles in the events that shaped our state and nation. He is
considered an expert on the history of the Lewis and Clark expedition and has personally retraced thousands of miles of
their trail by canoe and on foot.
Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, is famous for his energetic personality, range of interests
and achievements, leadership of the Progressive Movement, model of masculinity, and his “cowboy” image. Roosevelt’s
achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as any office he held as
a politician. This living history presentation delves into Roosevelt’s life after his presidency and brings this historical icon
to life.

The library asks that you use the north door for entrance to the event.

Red Cross Blood Drive/Sumner @ Sumner Community Building
Jan 16 @ 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
During the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s, about 500 fewer blood drives were hosted by volunteer sponsor groups than required to meet patient needs. Many groups postpone blood drives during the winter holidays when travel and holiday activities may make it challenging for many donors to give. In fact, AAA estimated that a record 115.6 million Americans traveled during the holiday period of Dec. 21 through Jan. 1.
“Lifesaving medical treatments and emergencies never take a holiday,” said Paul Sullivan, senior vice president, Red Cross Biomedical Services. “Declines in donations can affect patient care. That’s why the Red Cross is encouraging eligible donors to make an appointment to give now and help those sidelined by illness and trauma.”
Donors are urged to make an appointment to give now using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.
