Her mother Donna, the former lead singer of the 1970’s pop group Donna and the Dynamos, refuses to talk about the past, so Sophie decides to take matters into her own hands. Sneaking a peek in her mother’s old diaries, she discovers three possible fathers: Sam, Bill, and Harry. Outdoor Poetry Reading at Kearney’s Cottonmill Park @ Cottonmill Park
Aug 6 @ 7:00 pm

Poets and poetry lovers will gather at the Cottonmill Park Amphitheatre in Kearney on Thursday, August 6th at 7:00 pm for an event that the organizers are calling the “Masked Poetry Reading.”  Hosted by the Prairie Art Brothers, the reading will feature 3 notable Kearney area poets, Charles Peek, Terry Schifferns, and Kevin Nenstiel.  There will also be time for “open mic” readings.  Emerging and established poets from the area are welcome to join in.

The open mic readings will be limited to 10 minutes each. Masks are not required, but social distancing is strongly encouraged. The Prairie Art Brothers regular poetry readings at the Frank House at UNK were suspended this spring as the Covid-19 virus began to spread.

“We wanted to find a safe way to provide some creative inspiration during this difficult time,” says Prairie Art Brothers member Mark Foradori, “And, we want to provide encouragement for new writers in the area.”

They hope that by having this reading outdoors they can provide plenty of social distancing space to help keep audience members and poets safe.  Those who attend are free to bring refreshments to enjoy during the reading, but please remember that alcoholic beverages aren’t permitted in Cottonmill Park.

Sutherland Chamber of Commerce Community Breakfast @ American Legion Post
Aug 9 @ 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

The host for August is the Sutherland Fire and Rescue!

The hard working men and women of the Sutherland Volunteer Fire Department recently celebrated the ground breaking of the new Sutherland Fire Hall. Now they are taking time out of their busy lives to host breakfast for you – and to raise funds for this important community organization!

The changes implemented in June will continue in August. The food will be served cafeteria style, not self-service buffet style. All of our volunteers will be masked and gloved for your safety. The tables will be separated so that no more than six people can sit together as a group, and will be placed six feet apart. All tables will be sanitized between seatings.

Sutherland’s Community Breakfasts are every second Sunday from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Legion Community Hall, 130 S. Maple St. Suggested donation is a minimum of $6 for adults and children 6 and above. Children 5 and under eat free. Patrons are encouraged to give generously.

Always sponsored by the Sutherland Chamber of Commerce, each month has a different host, which keeps all of the profits after the expenses are paid. Interested organizations can contact Muriel Clark at nebraskaoutback@gmail.com.
