Aug 28 all-day

The Military Vehicle Preservation Association will travel through Kearney as they retrace the original 1919 US Army’s First Transcontinental Motor Convoy route, on the famed Lincoln Highway on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. The 2019 Military Convoy will depart on August 10, from York, PA, the site of the 2019 MVPA Annual Convention and conduct an official Convoy launch from York, PA. They will drive to Gettysburg and spend 2 nights then head west from there.

Some 36 days and over 3,200 miles, the Convoy will arrive on Saturday, September 14 at Lincoln Park in San Francisco, just as the US Army Convoy did in 1919.

The tour will include about 55 Historic Military Vehicles and will travel around 30 mph for about 120-150 miles per day. Daily stopping points are planned. The Convoy’s 1st stop on August 28 will be at the Classic Car Collection in Kearney from approximately 8:30-9:00am. Then they will travel along Highway 30 through Kearney until they reach their lunch stop at the Heartland Military Museum in Lexington.

Nebraska Extension Vegetable Garden Tour – North Platte @ Nebrasksa Extension Office
Aug 29 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Vegetable Garden Tour FlierNebraska Extension Vegetable Garden Tour August 29th in North Platte!

Looking for vegetable gardens that work? Come to the Nebraska Extension Vegetable Garden Tour, 7:00 p.m., Central Standard Time, Thursday, August 29, at the Nebraska Extension Office, 348 W. State Farm Road, in North Platte.
This garden is part of the “Growing Together Nebraska” grant program through Nebraska Extension to raise produce for local food pantries in North Platte. Nebraska Extension horticulture and foods educators will share easy-to-use tips at home. Extension Master Gardeners helped plan, raise, maintain and harvest produce out of this garden. Topics covered at the tour will cover variety selection, home composting, use of mulch, and how to prepare different vegetables that the whole family will enjoy.
Here is a great opportunity to learn about the different vegetable varieties that were chosen and raised in the garden. Visit with Extension Master Gardeners who work with in this garden by maintaining this garden, what aspects have been successful, and which areas of the garden will be improved for next year.
While there is no charge for this program, please RSVP by Tuesday, August 27th, to the Nebraska Extension Office by calling 308-532-2683 to ensure enough handouts and samples for all program participants.
David Lott is the Horticulture Extension Educator with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension in North Platte, Nebraska.
Extension is a Division of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln cooperating with the Counties and the United States Department of Agriculture.
